In designing a new stand for the Spank-O-Matic, I surveyed a number of customers about their favorite ways to position their SOM units, and of course took my own practices into account. A clear pattern emerged, and fed into the design of the Flexor stand. The result is an easy-to-use, extremely flexible stand designed for the most popular positioning of the SOM.
The Spank-O-Matic Flexor uses the same core machine as the original SOM. It provides the same great control of speed and stroke power, and you can read more about the Core's features on the Spank-O-Matic product page.
The unique change in this model is -- obviously -- the Flexor stand. Heavily constructed of welded steel, the Flexor stand provides a rock-spolid platfrom that straddles the target person... either at the upper torso/head or the ankles. The SOM core can be held at a range of heights and angles for targets of different sizes and in different positions.
The most popular position overall is with the Spank-O-Matic above the target's head/upper back, working down and backwards. The Flexor stand is ideal for this position... a minute or two to set up. A second popular positioning tactic has the target over a chair or the edge of a bed, with the machine behind and slightly below them. This position is also easy to achieve with the Flexor.
Folks rave about how easy the SOM is to transport and store, due to its compact design. To keep this favored characteristic, the Flexor is designed to disassemble quickly and easily into compact components. The offset "T" shaped legs are 18" apart on the inside, and the Flexor is 28" tall. However, the two legs detach from the top portion, and the SOM bracket folds down. Fully colapsed, the stand itself fits in a space roughly 24" x 18" x 6". Leaving the core attached increases this requirement, of course.
If you need the most portable solution, the original remains the stand of choice. The core swaps easily between the two, so you could have the Flexor for home use and the original stand for "on the go" play. Please note that SOM cores delivered prior to March, 2004 are not compatible with the Flexor stand, although retrofitting is possible.
